  • Speak Your Truth

    May 17th, 2024
    Instagram

Speaking your truth is like wearing glasses that allow you to see the world. It’s like finally taking off that itchy sweater you’ve been wearing all day and slipping into your favorite cozy hoodie. It’s fresh air in a room with stale conversations and polite small talk.

But speaking your truth is not always easy. In a world of filters and facades, it can be intimidating to be raw and vulnerable. It’s like standing on a stage with a spotlight shining directly on you, exposing all your flaws and imperfections for the world to see. But here’s the thing – those flaws and imperfections make you unique and authentic. They are what make your truth worth speaking.

When you speak your truth, you own your story. You are taking control of your narrative and refusing to be silenced by fear or societal expectations. You say, “This is who I am, flaws and all, and I am proud of it.” It’s a powerful act of self-love and self-acceptance.

Speaking your truth is also a form of rebellion. It’s pushing back against the status quo and refusing to conform to societal norms that don’t align with your values. It’s saying:

“I will not be silenced or marginalized. I will not shrink myself to fit into a box that was never meant for me.”

It’s a bold declaration of independence and self-determination. Remember, speaking your truth is not just about you. It’s about creating space for others to do the same.

When you speak your truth, you permit others to do the same.

You inspire and empower those around you to be authentic and unapologetic in who they are. You create a ripple effect of truth-telling that can spark change and transformation in the world.

So, go ahead and speak your truth. Be unapologetically yourself, flaws and all. Embrace your uniqueness and authenticity.

Own your story and refuse to be silenced. And remember, in a world full of noise and distractions, your truth is like a beacon of light guiding you home to yourself.

  • Discovering Thy Self

    May 15th, 2024

Self-discovery is like embarking on a treasure hunt, except the treasure is inside of you (cue dramatic music). It’s a journey that requires digging deep, exploring every nook and cranny of your soul, and facing the good, the bad, and the downright ugly parts of yourself.

Brave explorer, the rewards of self-discovery are genuinely priceless.

One of the first steps in self-discovery is peeling back the layers of societal expectations, familial influences, and personal insecurities plastered onto you since birth. It’s like shedding a snakeskin, except instead of being all slimy and gross, you emerge as a shiny, new version of yourself (with hopefully fewer scales).

Once you’ve stripped away all the external influences, you’re left with the raw, unfiltered version of yourself – the good, the bad, and the confusingly mediocre. You may discover hidden talents you never knew you had, like the ability to juggle flaming torches while riding a unicycle (hey, stranger things have happened). Or you may uncover deep-seated fears and insecurities holding you back from reaching your full potential.

Self-discovery also involves facing your demons head-on, whether it’s confronting past traumas, addressing toxic behaviors, or finally admitting that you’re addicted to binge-watching cat videos on YouTube. It’s not always pretty or pleasant, but it’s necessary to grow and evolve as a person.

And hey, at least you’ll have some juicy stories to tell at parties.

However, perhaps the most rewarding aspect of self-discovery is uncovering your true passions, values, and purpose. When you know who you are and what you stand for, you can confidently navigate the murky waters of existence. You’ll no longer be swayed by the opinions of others or feel lost in the chaos of modern life. You’ll be like a lighthouse, shining brightly and guiding others to their path of self-discovery.

So, I implore you to embark on your journey of self-discovery. Grab your metaphorical treasure map, pack some snacks (because self-discovery is exhausting), and prepare to uncover the hidden gems within yourself. And remember, the greatest treasure you’ll find is not buried in some far-off land but right there within your heart and soul.

    Happy exploring!

  • Building Courage

    May 12th, 2024

Courage is like a superhero cape that we all have the power to put on, but not everyone has the guts to wear it proudly. The invisible force pushes us to face our fears, take risks, and stand up for what we believe in. While some may think of courage as a quality possessed only by the bravest of souls, the truth is that it comes in many shapes and sizes.

Courage is not just about charging into battle or facing a roaring lion head-on (although, kudos to those who do). It’s about finding the strength to speak up when everyone else is silent, to stand tall when others try to knock you down and to keep going when the going gets tough. It’s the quiet voice inside that whispers, “You can do this,” even when everything around you screams, “You can’t.”

Courage is not about being fearless; it’s about feeling the fear and doing it anyway. It’s about acknowledging your doubts and insecurities but refusing to let them hold you back. It’s about taking that first step into the unknown, even when your knees are shaking and your palms are sweaty. It’s about embracing vulnerability and uncertainty, knowing that true courage lies in being willing to risk failure to pursue something more extraordinary.

Courage is not just a trait that some people are born with; it’s a muscle that can be strengthened through practice and perseverance. It’s about pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, challenging your limits, and daring to dream big. It’s about being willing to fail, stumble, make mistakes, and learn from them. It’s about being resilient in the face of adversity, knowing that setbacks are just detours on the road to success.

Courage is not about seeking glory or recognition; it’s about doing what is right, even when no one is watching. It’s about standing up for what you believe in, even when it’s unpopular or controversial. It’s about being true to yourself and your values, even when going along with the crowd is more manageable. It’s about being a beacon of light in a world that sometimes feels dark and uncertain.

So, the next time you face a daunting challenge or a terrifying decision, remember that you have the power of courage within you. Take a deep breath, square your shoulders, and confidently step forward. Embrace the fear, embrace the uncertainty, and embrace the opportunity to be the hero of your own story. After all, as Helen Keller once said:

“Security is mostly a superstition. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”

So, be bold, be brave, and be courageous. The world is waiting for you to shine.

  • Healing From The Narcissist

    May 9th, 2024

My mother is a narcissist, and it took me years to gain control of my life….

Healing from narcissistic abuse is no easy feat, but with a little bit of self-love and a whole lot of therapy, you can bounce back from those toxic relationships. Here are a few tips to get you on the road to recovery:

Cut Ties With The Narcissist –

This may seem like a no-brainer, but sometimes, we need a gentle reminder that we deserve better than someone who only cares about themselves. Block them on social media, change your phone number, and do whatever it takes to create a clean break.

    Seek Therapy –

Talking to a professional can help you sort through your feelings and develop coping mechanisms for dealing with the trauma of narcissistic abuse. Who doesn’t love a good therapy session where you can let it all out?

    Supportive People –

A solid support system is essential when you’re going through a tough time. Lean on friends and family who lift you and make you feel loved.

    Practice Self-Care –

Treat yourself to a spa day, go for a long walk in nature, or indulge in your favorite hobby. Taking care of yourself is vital to healing from any abuse.

    Set Boundaries –

One of the most important things you can do after experiencing narcissistic abuse is to set boundaries with others. Make it clear what you will and will not tolerate in your relationships.

    Forgive Yourself –

It’s easy to blame yourself for falling victim to a narcissist’s manipulation, but remember that you are not at fault. Forgive yourself for any mistakes you may have made and focus on moving forward.

    Educate –

Knowledge is power, so take the time to educate yourself on narcissistic personality disorder and the red flags to watch out for in future relationships.

Remember, healing from narcissistic abuse is a slow process that, at times, may have you feeling like you’re on a roller coaster, and it’s okay to take your time. Be gentle with yourself, and know you deserve all the love and respect this world offers.

    You’ve got this.

  • Grow Those Passions

    May 3rd, 2024

Passions are like the spices of life – they add flavor, excitement, and zest to our everyday existence. Cultivating your passions is not just a pastime; it’s a way to tap into your true self, unleash your creativity, and find fulfillment in all you do.

But let’s face it: in a world where everyone is busy chasing after success, money, and status, it’s easy to neglect our passions. We get caught up in the daily grind, the never-ending to-do lists, and the pressures of society. We forget that our passions are what make us unique, what make us come alive, what make us truly happy.

So, how do we cultivate our passions in a world that seems to value productivity over passion? It takes dedication, time, and a willingness to prioritize what truly matters to us. It means setting aside time each day to indulge in our passions, whether writing, painting, cooking, dancing, or whatever else sets our hearts on fire.

Cultivating your passions also means surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who share your interests and can inspire you to reach new heights. It means seeking opportunities to learn, grow, and challenge yourself in your chosen field. It means being open to new experiences, perspectives, and ways of thinking.

But perhaps most importantly, cultivating your passions means permitting yourself to be unapologetically yourself. It means embracing your quirks, eccentricities, and unique talents and using them to fuel your passions and propel you towards your dreams.

So the next time you feel uninspired, unmotivated, or just plain bored with life, remember to cultivate your passions. Take a moment to reconnect with what truly sets your soul on fire, and commit to nurturing and nourishing that flame. Life is too short to live without passion, and the world is dull without your unique spark.

  • Sleepless Nights

    April 29th, 2024
    Photo: LHJ

I lie awake in the stillness of the night, my tangled thoughts a silent earthquake.
The darkness wraps around me tight, as I once again navigate through a sleepless night.

    Dreams elude my wandering mind,
leaving me restless, with no peace to find.
Echoes of the day refuse to fade,
a sleepless night, my mind betrayed.

The hours tick by, and the world still sleeps, while I am lost in my thoughts so deep.
Whispers of worries dance in the air, as I try to find solace but find no repair.

Yet in the silence, a calm does descend, a gentle reminder that this too shall end.

A glimmer of hope in the silence of the dark night, that soon, I’ll find my way to the light.

Within this struggle, I embrace these endless nights and find strength in the dark to continue the fight.

  • Anything less than magic

    April 27th, 2024
    LHJ

When it comes to life, why settle for anything less than magic?

Why settle for mediocrity when you can have greatness?

Why settle for the ordinary when you can have the extraordinary?

Magic is all around us, waiting to be discovered and embraced. It’s in how the sun sets over the horizon, painting the sky with a kaleidoscope of colors.

It’s in the laughter of a child, pure and infectious.

It’s in the feeling of love, overwhelming and all-encompassing.

But too often, we settle for less than magic, less than we deserve.

We settle for jobs that don’t fulfill us, relationships that don’t inspire us, and lives that don’t excite us.

We settle for the safe and the comfortable, forgetting that true magic lies beyond our comfort zones.

We settle for less because it’s easier. After all, it’s what we know. After all, it’s what society tells us we should do.

But why should we settle for anything less than magic?

Why should we accept a life that is anything less than extraordinary?

Why should we conform to the expectations of others when we have the power to create our destiny?

Instead of settling for less, we should strive for more. We should chase after our dreams with relentless determination.

We should refuse to accept anything that doesn’t light a fire in our souls.

We should surround ourselves with people who push us to be our best selves, believe in our potential, and inspire us to reach for the stars.

Magic is not something that can be easily defined or quantified.

    It’s a feeling, a sensation, a state of being.

It’s that rush of adrenaline when you take a leap of faith.

It’s that sense of wonder when you witness something truly extraordinary.

It’s that spark of creativity that ignites your passion.

So why settle for anything less than magic?

Life is too short to play it safe, to settle for the status quo, to conform to the expectations of others.

Embrace the unknown, chase after your wildest dreams, and never settle for anything less than magic.

Because when you don’t, you’ll discover a truly extraordinary life filled with wonder, excitement, and endless possibilities.

  • Projections

    April 25th, 2024

Have you ever noticed how some people can’t help but project their insecurities onto you? It’s like they see a mirror in your eyes, but instead of reflecting their flaws, they try to cover them up by pointing out yours. It’s classic: “I’m not happy with myself, so I’ll ensure you’re not happy with yourself either.”

    Think about it.

When someone criticizes you for how you dress, speak, or act, it’s not really about you. It’s about them feeling inadequate in comparison. Maybe they wish they had the confidence to wear that bold outfit or the charisma to speak up in a crowded room. So, instead of addressing their issues, they take the easy way out and tear you down.

But here’s the thing – their words say more about them than they do about you.

When someone calls you lazy, it’s because they feel lazy themselves.

When someone calls you selfish, it’s because they struggle with their sense of generosity.

It’s a classic case of projection, my friend.

So the next time someone tries to rain on your parade, remember that their negativity reflects their inner demons.

Instead of taking their words to heart, take pity on them. After all, it must be exhausting to constantly see the world through a lens of insecurity and self-doubt.

And hey, if you want to throw them for a loop, try responding with kindness and understanding. Show them you’re secure enough to rise above their pettiness. Who knows, you might inspire them to do the same.

Ultimately, how others react to you says more about them than it does about you. So don’t let their words bring you down.

Keep shining bright, my friend, and let their insecurities bounce off you like water off a duck’s back.

  • Coaching Youth and Their Mental Health

    April 23rd, 2024
    Pinterest

Coaching youth athletes who struggle with their mental health is a crucial and delicate responsibility that requires empathy, understanding, and a commitment to supporting their overall well-being. As coaches, we have a unique opportunity to positively impact the lives of our young athletes and help them navigate the challenges they face both on and off the field.

It is essential to recognize that mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. Young athletes may experience anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or other mental health challenges that can impact their performance, motivation, and overall quality of life. As coaches, we must create a safe and supportive environment where athletes feel comfortable discussing their struggles and seeking help when needed.

One of the first steps in coaching youth athletes who struggle with their mental health is to foster open communication and trust. Encourage athletes to share their thoughts and feelings with you and create a non-judgmental space to express themselves freely. By actively listening to their concerns and validating their experiences, you can help athletes feel seen, heard, and supported.

It is also essential to educate yourself about the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues in youth athletes and be proactive in addressing any concerns that arise. Look out for changes in behavior, mood, or performance that may indicate a mental health struggle, and be prepared to offer resources, referrals, and support to help athletes get the help they need.

Additionally, as coaches, we must prioritize our athletes’ mental health and well-being. This means promoting a healthy work-life balance, encouraging self-care practices, and emphasizing the importance of seeking professional help. Be a role model for your athletes by prioritizing your mental health and demonstrating healthy coping mechanisms.

Ultimately, coaching youth athletes who struggle with their mental health requires a compassionate and holistic approach that considers the whole person, not just their athletic performance. By prioritizing mental health and well-being, we can empower our young athletes to thrive on and off the field and set them up for success in all aspects of their lives. As coaches, we have the power to make a lasting impact on the lives of our athletes, and it is our responsibility to support them in their journey towards mental wellness.

  • Life Lessons

    April 21st, 2024
    Photo: LHJ

Life can be a real rollercoaster ride, full of ups and downs, twists and turns. And let’s face it, sometimes those downs can be pretty darn low. Those negative experiences test our grit and make us question everything.

    Guess what?

They’re teaching us some valuable lessons about ourselves.

Negative life experiences force us to confront our weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Whether it’s a failed relationship, a job loss, or a health scare, these moments can knock us off our feet and make us question our strength and resilience.

They also allow us to dig deep and discover how tough we are. We may not feel like superheroes, but overcoming these obstacles shows us how much inner strength we possess.

Similarly, negative life experiences can also teach us about our values and priorities. When faced with tough times, we must reevaluate what truly matters. Maybe that high-paying job isn’t as important as spending time with loved ones. Maybe that toxic relationship isn’t worth sacrificing our happiness. These moments of adversity can be a wake-up call, helping us realign our priorities and focus on what truly brings us joy and fulfillment.

In addition, negative life experiences can also teach us about our resilience and ability to bounce back. When we hit rock bottom, it can feel like the end of the world.

We all can pick ourselves back up, dust ourselves off, and keep moving forward. These dark experiences teach us that we are far more resilient than we ever thought possible and have the strength to overcome even the toughest challenges.

So, the next time life throws you a curveball, remember it’s not all doom and gloom. Negative experiences are valuable lessons in disguise, teaching us strength, values, and resilience. Embrace the challenges, learn from them, and become stronger and wiser.

After all, as they say, what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.

So, bring it on, life. We’re ready for whatever you throw our way.
